Carmel, a place I was eager to visit since my arrival to San Francisco, and so were my friends. And so one Saturday morning we rented a car and drove along the world famous Coast Highway 1 to Carmel.

The drive from San Francisco to Carmel-by-the-Sea takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. – Quite a long drive by European standards, but here in America it’s peanuts. – And with great music, fun friends and the beautiful scenery of the Californian coast, time flies by.

On our way down the wild coast of California we stopped to walk up and down one of many beaches and to take some pictures. Walking towards the water, I, at first, wasn’t sure what to expect. I was amazed by all its beauty! Never have I ever seen such incredible views. The sea was so wild, the waves were huge and the beach, covered in branches, logs, and white sand made it just picture perfect!

Arriving in Carmel, we had a slight issue with finding a parking spot, but eventually we found one and got out to explore the town. Luckily, the weather was again in our favor as the sun shone bright, making us feel like we were once again on a holiday trip. The town with its Norman-like architecture made me think of the small European villages I used to visit whenever we went on a family vacation – I had the feeling we weren’t in America anymore!

When in America do as the Americans do! So as time passed by, it was time for lunch! J We looked at the different restaurants and all the yummy menus, before deciding to go to Affina; an eatery that serves fusion American comfort food with a twist. We got some salmon on toast as an appetizer to share and as my main course, I ordered Broccolinni soup. – so delicious and creamy!

After lunch, we took another stroll through town towards the beach before hopping back into the car and continuing our journey to Point Lobos State National Reserve.

I had no idea what to expect when arriving at Point Lobos – I had never heard of it before. –

Stepping out of the car I tilted my head to get a glimpse of the sea. I was stunned at how the warm yellow light of the setting sun made magical sparkles on the wet, seaweed covered rocks – I could have stayed there forever!

Unfortunately, we didn’t have that much time as the evening was falling. So back on the road, headed towards SF! But, on the way home we still managed to make a quick stop in Monterey for dinner and an evening walk.

This was the end of yet another great adventure, here, in the USA!
