Hidden within the small village of Melides in the Alentejo region of Portugal, a beautiful building arises on the edge of the town border. With a mix of classical Portuguese architecture and unique details that show the particularity and craftsmanship that was involved in the realization of Vermelho Melides.

Hotel Vermelho Melides

Vermelho, meaning red in Portuguese, is the personal project of mister Christian Louboutin. The designer fell in love with the region many years ago and decided to share this love by opening a small boutique hotel to invite those who wish to discover the treasures of Melides and its surroundings.

Although being a hotel, Vermelho is to be seen as an extended home to welcome friends and family; a place where guests are encouraged to treat the house as their own. Of course, the rural and rather secluded location of the hotel already create this laid-back atmosphere, but it is the team who truly adds to this feeling. Even though the service is top notch as every detail is accounted for, the casual flair in the staff’s interaction is what makes sure you feel comfortable at all times.

With the desire to be treated as a home, Vermelho must be one of the most extraordinary and unique places you’ve ever stayed. The architecture at its base is inspired by the authentic Portuguese style, as well is the local artistry and craftmanship represented throughout the property. From colourful tile work and personalized ceramics, to handmade wooden doors that are a piece of art on its own. Not to mention the pièce de résistance: the bespoke silver bar – an absolute jewel being one of its kind, created by Villareal Goldsmiths.

The furniture and decoration are also personally picked out and piece by piece is unique to every room. Many items are even coming from Christian Louboutin’s personal collection.

Interior details

The overall design of Vermelho can therefore be described as eclectic with influences from not only the Portuguese culture, but also the Northern African culture. Final touches of modern design take Vermelho to an extraordinary experience with new details left to be discovered everywhere you look.

Nonetheless, as the appearance of Vermelho is leading you to explore new styles, there is one leading thread across its design. Doing right by its name and the signature of its creator, the colour red is never far away.

Liefs,

Bente
